Signs of a Dental Emergency
Maybe you’re not sure if you have a dental emergency — sometimes patients think their symptoms are normal. We recommend you seek professional help whenever you feel uncomfortable or if you experience an unusual sensation in your mouth, such as:
Toothache. See your dentist as soon as possible if you are feeling pain. There could be different causes behind a toothache — your dentist will help you treat it and find relief before it gets worse.
A loose tooth. Adults should never have loose teeth. A loose tooth may be caused by an injury or an infection. In either case, you need help from a dentist.
Bleeding gums. If your gums are bleeding/aching, it could be a sign of gum disease.
Chipped, cracked, or broken tooth. If left untreated, these may cause bacteria in the tooth, which could lead to a serious infection.
Sore jaw. If you have a swollen jaw, it could be a sign of infection. You may also notice a bad taste in your mouth.
Dental abscess. Symptoms include fever, a bad taste in your mouth, pus, and/or swelling. If you have any of these, seek immediate medical attention.
What To Do During A Dental Emergency?
If you experience an injury involving your mouth, seek medical help as soon as possible. The faster you visit our emergency dentist, the better.
If you have a broken, cracked, or chipped tooth, try to keep it moist. To reduce swelling, apply a cold compress to the affected area.
If you’re experiencing a toothache, avoid applying any medication. Clean your mouth with warm water. Then, gently remove any food or other debris using dental floss. Use a saltwater solution to rinse and apply a warm compress on the affected area.
If your pain goes away, there still could be a problem going under the surface. If you’ve experienced any of these symptoms, visit our office in Chennai so our emergency dentists can help you figure it out.
